Technology in Education

While technology can be a great tool in education, like any tool it requires skill and understanding to use effectively. For example, let's say a teacher of 30 years is gifted with a brand new set of iPads. However, this teacher has never used an iPad before and does not receive any training from their school about how to use this new technology or incorporate it into the curriculum. It's very unlikely they will use them in any effective manner.

Also, there must be a purpose and vision attached to any new technological tool provided for education. Otherwise, there can be unintended consequences and limitations to that tool's effectiveness. Students can learn a great amount about writing from starting and maintaining their own blogs. However, if they are not taught how to responsibly use the internet safely, this kind of assignment can lead to some serious risks for the students. Also, if the purpose of the blogs is not effectively taught by teacher prior to starting them, they will likely not yield any meaningful content or learning for the students.
